One of its kind in India, the mentorship program included intensive research, curriculum design and management of resources across a well planned calendar of sessions and events.
The Sunaparanta Art initiator Lab (SAIL) mentorship program is a platform developed in 2021 to address certain gaps and gray areas existing in the educational and professional spaces within the creative industry. The project was developed by Lina Vincent after a pilot project with the Piramal Arts Residency, Mumbai. Supported by Sunaparanta Goa Centre for the Arts, the arts initiator lab offers a structured and intuitively designed curriculum that engages the participants (who are residents of Goa) in various modules over the 10-month period. The sessions, that relate to the multilayered aspects of a creative practice, are directed towards enhancement of the participants’ skills, knowledge, and work methodologies. The mentees evaluate their prior experiences and develop personalised tools that take their creative work forward, be it artistic production, research, and/or collaboration. SAIL aims to contribute to a stronger cultural community by bringing together practitioners from various fields and facilitating the exploration of multidisciplinary approaches. Now in its third year, the benefits of the SAIL program are visible with the strong expansion of the community, and the awards, grants and fellowships received by the program participants.
